There are so many ways to experience the trail. You might just visit a few distilleries on your trip, or maybe you're tackling the entire trail region by region. Here are a few trip ideas to help inspire your journey.
mr.bootstraps here: as a kid, taking those trips to Gatlinburg and the Smokies played a direct part in making me into a southern travel photographer. We’d roll out from Nashville to that awesome town surrounded by big hills, we would create special memories, we would leave, and I would always be craving the next adventure.
Gatlinburg today is moving in an awesome direction with new attractions like anakeesta, gatlinburgskylift and the tennesseecidercompany. Aside from the delicious cider (until the appropriate age) I’m looking forward to bringing my kids here and forging their own amazing memories. (You’ll have the elevated southern dinner of your life at thegreenbriertn by the way. )

This Bottled in Bond Bourbon barreled in spring 2018 is the first Chattanooga Whiskey I`ve tried, and it`s fantastic. chattwhiskey has been on my list for a while since I enjoyed visiting the city a couple of times (long before they opened) - there`s a nice art museum and arts district, a pedestrian bridge across the Tennessee River, and the nearby attractions of Rock City and Ruby Falls. The Chattanooga Whiskey Experimental Distillery opened in 2015 and was the first to make whiskey there in over 100 years, thanks to the owners getting the law changed. Two years later, they opened a 2nd location called the Riverfront Distillery, where they produce their signature Tennessee High Malt expressions, Chattanooga Whiskey 91 and Cask 111. The Riverfront Distillery, which isn`t open to the public at this time, houses a 4,000-gallon charred, white oak Solera barrel, used to finish the 91. Each vintage of their BiB is crafted from a wide selection of unique bourbon mash bills, each comprised of at least 25% specialty malted grains. I`d love to take my husband to show him the sights and taste of some of their experimental batches!
